Posted By DPK Can some one point me to the defining point of the Regs which state an accidental release of asbestos fibres is reportable. I have read the Regs and can only identify the requirement on the HSE website but not in the Regs.

Posted By Ali Riddor requires you to report any accidental release of a substance likely to damage health. This includes asbestos, though the latter is not specified. I once reported such an exposure, which was later measured at being over the control limit. If in doubt, you can always telephone the ICC.

Posted By Ron Hunter RIDDOR refers to an uncontrolled release in a quantity sufficient to cause harm. There being no WEL or defined "safe" exposure level for asbestos, it can therefore be argued that any uncontrolled release is (in theory) likely to cause harm? That's an honest interpretation of RIDDOR, but please believe me folks, I don't want to get embroiled in the "one fibre" theory!!
