Posted By Chris Packham Andrew Selection and use of gloves for protection against chemicals is a complex topic. Most safety data sheets provide incorrect advice. Manufacturers' published performance data is based on a (flawed) EN standard test and will rarely reflext what you will get in practice I have a Technical Bulletin on this that reviews some of the complexities. If you would like a copy drop me an e-mail. Chris

Posted By SNS Hi Andy, If you contact your PPE provider they are normally keen to come onto site to deliver such training for you as part of the supply deal. Some will provide 'face - fit' tester training if you are using RPE too. If your current supplier doesn't, maybe seek out one that does. At least 3 of the major manufacturers do this: 3M, Drager and North. Other companies will also have their own schemes. Most of them will do 'train the trainer' for you. Regards, S

Posted By Rose Herridge Hi Andrew. I was faced with the same situation and have now written my own training specifically for our Company. We are a manufacturing based business and use the items that you have listed. My training lasts for 10 minutes (over that time I believe I would loose the concentration of the staff). I photogaphed each item of PPE with a member of staff(with their permission!) wearing it correctly and wrote a short summary of why they are required to wear it and what happens if they dont - health wise and law wise! The correct use and fitting was obtained from the manufacturers on their specification and safety data sheets. I felt that by using my staff to demonstrate - the training had already started and has stopped the forgetfulness that some had before when it came to gloves etc....! Good Luck with your training Rose

Posted By FAH Andy - your email didn't work! I specialise in the topic area of Chemical Suits & Respirators. I would suggest that [no disresect to Rose intended] that you will need to base your training specifically on your equipment & how you intend it to be used; as well as any existing training regime and your current procedures. Without more info it's difficult to provide more useful info. Frank Hallett

Posted By Andrew Kelleher Hi Frank Thanks for your comments regarding PPE and DSEAR!! I appear to be having difficulty with one of my email accounts. I would really appreciate it if you could drop me a line on apk124@live.co.uk or alternatively let me email yourself, as you appear to be very well informed re this topic. Once again many thanks for your input. Regards Andy
