Quick question
What details MUST be recorded in the accident book BI 510? The reason I am asking, our company seems to be duplicating paperwork and its now at the stage where the first aiders arent completing the standard accident book and are only completing our own internal record book. Our record doesnt hold the same details - for example, no record of address of IP or first aider.
Thanks

Barry,
There is no legal requirement to use Form B510, however there is a requirement to record the basic information it requests in some format somewhere, so a company form may be used to cover those requirements. Data protection requirements would also need to be considered when using 'company forms' which often include basic 'accident investigation' questions etc.
Being able to contact the injured person and the person who administered the First Aid I would suggest are important requirements of an employer being able to 'investigate' if necessary any accident that occurs.
You will need to have a look at your company procedures for reporting of Accidents in order to establish whether the filling in of B510 is required in addition to or in lieu of the company accident form.
It may be worthwhile reviewing your first aid and accident reporting procedures to simplify things to reflect the 'risk level' of your workplace.
Regards
Bryan

I would check social security law as to the requirements of the BI510 as the book is managed etc by the Social Security - Department of Pensions and not the HSE
For you to disregard the BI510 you need permission from the appropriate authority and your in house forms need to have the BI510 info contained therein plus what your company wants
The DPA is an important but secondary area

Records can be kept in other forms ..... Form B1 510 is not a MUST.

I don't think you need permission to use your own form in preference to the 'official' accident book! We use our own form which records all of the basic information required by the B1510 and then some. As long as it is recorded as required then you can use whatever form you like.

whatever form you like to use is OK provided the correct and wanted info is included therein
BI510 is not the 'be all' at all but its info is required by SS law
