Hi all
This is my first time for using the forum's, however I am now begining to doubt my logic on one item of equipment.
That is Mobile Steps - the warehouse type, we have several of these on both of our sites and my issue whether I need to put in place ladder logs for these or simply classify them as equipment and deal with them through that route i.e. PUWER regular examination and inspection, competent person, training and overall policy and procedures for the use, checking and reporting of faults.
Has anybody else come across this, what are your thoughts, is this plain PUWER.
Cheers

We deal with ours under PUWER and have an external organisation come in to check them (and all other ladders, scissor trolleys, pallet trucks etc.
Don't forget to do a risk assessment to indicate safe practice

We produce ladder inspection systems and I know some of our customers use the same ladder checklist for the mobile steps and even kick-steps (they simply tick off the checks that correlate to the equipment in question. Feel free to visit our good to go safety site for details.

Hi Alan, Welcome to the pleasuredome :)
I once worked in a factory where because we had the insurance people come in to check Fork trucks and lifting equipment etc, i got them to do all the static and movable ladders too, because they already came for the trucks it was not as expensive as you think and of course satisfied the insurance company thus is also good leverage for reducing it :)
Obviously this would be backed up with the daily/weekly checks etc and tagging. Another issue to remember is something i came into contact with, regards to Build up on wheels causing a manual handling issue as in push and pull. I am of course presuming you mean the aircraft style ladders.
