on a couple of recent site safety audits, the auditor has marked down the sites on excavations because the trench boxs are not flat to the bottom of the excavations. myself and other safety advisors are of the opinion that the boxs can be left short of the bottom of trench up to a maximum of 600 mm (depending on ground conditions). can any one give advice opinions on flying trench boxs within excavations.

300mm is the maximum I tend to allow as I am very much aware of 'standards creep' i.e. 600 becomes 900 becomes over a 1000. I tel them if its more than a spade face high its too high!
