Posted By Dominic Smyth Hi Can anyone point me to specific guidance relating to inspection and maintenance of roller shutter doors please or is it all based on assessment of risk?

Posted By martinw Hi Dominic I think that the British standard referring is BSEN 13241-1:2003 presuming that there is no fire resistance required for this roller door. That should give some information regarding your query. In terms of maintenance, have a look at the document below for info re inspections and what to look for. If you have this info apologies. I am nothing to do with the company, it is for info only. http://www.advanceddoors...wnloads/VikingStarIV.pdf Cheers Martin

Posted By Andy Barr The Door and Hardware Federation may be able to assist - they recently produced guidance called "Best practice guide for the methods of restraining roller shutter door barrels" to try and stop a number of accidents each year where these things fall off - www.dhfonline.org.uk Andy

Posted By Mike DF Same as Bob, we have our low-use RSDs serviced and checked once a year and sit it under the PUWER regs. It pays to have an arrangement with a service company in case you have problems shutting up - and that will be on a Friday afternoon!

Posted By Chris Kelly Very few have PPM on roller shutters. We also had to investigate this in 2007 as a result of a failure of a newly installed shutter which had been hit by a truck just after installation. Immediate reaction was to blame the impact, however it turned out that the safety brake had been installed the wrong way round. It would only operated if the door operated at speed going upwards ! The door collapsed and broke a guy's brush, luckily he wasn't underneath and it only fell from about 5'. SAFed used to recommend once yearly examination or frequency dependant on risk assessment. Regards, Chris

Posted By mattshutterman Hi, You should get your roller shutters serviced once a year, this ensures that the shutters 100% safe and also the service may prevent expensivece repairs at a later date if small errors are fixed. the going rate is £68.00 per shutter. just letting you know :)
