Just started with a new company and found out I need to give a safety induction this afternoon!
I've got all the usual handouts, powerpoints etc. but what I need is something more interesting to prevent death by powerpoint and to create a more lasting impression.
In the future I will be looking at the IOSH stuff (i've seen a board game..?) but obviously time is my enemy today.
Has anyone got a good source for quizzes or anything 'fun' (!) that I can break up the afternoon with....

I usually start off with a hazard spotting exercise (normally a handout of an office environment) and ask delegates to identify the hazards and what action they would take to reduce it and refer it back to risk assessment and how straight forward it can sometimes be
To try and get some interaction, I usually bring a bag of fun size chocs which I throw out to the delegates for their answers. This then sets the tone for the session and I usually get more participation throughout the session.
Another word of advice, try and keep the induction to around 30/45 mins - remember this is just a brief overview of H&S and it maybe appropriate for them to attend other courses

I used to do pp inductions but it became so tedious that I couldn't stand it anymore. I now do "site tours" ( we are in large office) including walking the fire escape routes, assembly area etc and also explain the various hazards as we go along . I find it useful as a lot of new joiners will never see area's such a the loading bay etc so it gives them an insight into how the whole operation works and the kind of hazards different jobs in the firm may come across
