Posted By John Smith I’m looking for guidance on the health and safety requirements for staff working on clients sites. The work, if it happens, will be testing product to ensure conformance to specification and could involve hands on testing. Are there any publications out there that I can refer to or does anyone have experience of this type of work? John

Posted By Gus John I have experience of managing the risks for mobile enginners on clients sites Clearly as with all mobile work its difficult to assess the risk for each and every site so the best approach seems to be 1. create a good generic RA or set of generic RA's 2. develop a simple risk assessment form for the staff to complete that x reference to generic(s) and takes into account site hazards. client rules ( this is common in refrigeration Companies etc... 3. train staff in general safety and how to behave on clients sites have clear system for hazard reporting to the client and a willingness to go in to bat for your people but above all else ask the client to provide their risk assessments/ safety rules etc..... most will they only people i ever had trouble with were local authorities ( who are also enforcers of course) funny old world Gus

Posted By David Brede Certainly the personal risk assessment route is good. However you need to ensure that there is training for personnel doing it so you get a real assessment of the risks and not wishful thinking about what may be there. Also this helps getting consistency across your team. I think a degree of knowledge of the client is also good so that personnel are directed to signing on points and ask for a briefing if this is not forthcoming. Do you need to consider lone working if your personnel are visiting an un attended location?
