I operate partly in the road construction and maintenance sector and would like some helpful assistance on the following.
After a visit from an HSE Principal Inspector following a number of electric cable strikes underground I have been tasked with developing an in-house booklet on this topic.
I have a good idea of what to put in it following HSG 47, etc etc. It's the making it easy to understand part for the roads operatives that I need assistance with, i.e pictures, graphics, etc and getting access to these. There is quite a bit out there on the net but its all protected by copyright. I need to get the point across but not blind the operatives with science if you know what I mean.
Has anyone developed been involved in or carried something out that's similar. Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers
Norman

Hi Norman. Not easy but there is a lot of good stuff out there as you say.
And I bet most of them mimic a pre existing one to a degree.
Get a hold of some of it and use it as a guide. Make it specific to your company - logo etc - pictures can be a pointer to the things you like and may work for your team.
At the end of the day - they need to be specific to the work going on and the level of the worker - IE supervisor or labourer.
Hope this helps?

use as many pictures as poss [create your own] and keep words etc to a minimum
The booklet should be small enought to fit into a pocket

Norman,
Here is something that might help;
http://applications.road...s/includes/file.asp?ID=6
It was produced in 2006 and would need slight modification to bring it up-to-date with CDM 2007. Otherwise it is a good summary.
Best wishes
Ciaran

Western Power (Utilities company) produce quite a good little dvd & booklet for both underground services & also for overhead services.
Might be worth contacting their safety team and asking if you could have a look at a copy?
