Posted By Chris Smith RSP Hi all. Out of interest, has anybody heard any updates on how this is coming along? The HSE site appears to have moved the web page since I bookmarked it. Are the same parties still involved? Are there any updates on the process, forms, timescales etc.? Also, are there any other (non HSE) links from the wider industry perspective? Sorry for so many questions in one post! Thanks in advance. Chris

Posted By Two+one Yet another money making scheme that will offer little or no value to hard working contractors but will no doubt ensure that some consultants (not all), can make a nice little earner completing the forms on behalf of their Clients prior to the submission to the new scheme. What would make life a lot easier is if all Major Contractors, Local Authorities and Government Bodies could just use a standard set of questions to assess the competence of any suppliers. Appendix 4 of the CDM ACOP already provides the main structure for such a questionnaire. I estimate that to produce such a questionnaire would cost less that the fee required for the latest scheme. On the down side it would mean that Clients would need to review their prospective contractor’s information before appointing them. Having said that I already thought that was a legal requirement under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974. Don’t get me wrong I fully support the use of competent persons for carrying out any activities particularly in the construction industry. However I cannot support the case that we need yet another set of paper hoops to jump through to prove that we can do our jobs in a safe & healthy way.
