Is there any reason that a microwave would prove insufficient for welfare facilites for cooking and reheating food? More from the requirement of a diabetic person's needs.
(assuming that all legislation is met - cleanliness, leak testing, pat testing, etc)

The ACoP to the HSW Regs says at Para 232 "Eating facilities should include a facility for preparing or obtaining a hot
drink, such as an electric kettle, a vending machine or a canteen. Workers who work during hours or at places where hot food cannot be obtained in, or reasonably near to, the workplace should be provided with the means for heating their own food."
So I can't see why a microwave shouldn't be perfectly adequate. However you need to give us more details of what the exact objection is here.

One of my memebers of satff has diabetes, and I wnat to make sure that the provisions are adequate and cover their needs. i think a microwave will be sufficient for them to cook meals or re-heat pre-prepared food but was seeking some confimation really

I think you should just ask them. If they have any particular dietary requirements that require a specific food preparation method they will be the ones to know about it. I can't imagine any.

With regard to construction shop fitting projects a microwave is ideal as it is portable and so easy to use. As long as the meals are pre cooked, either purchased (ready meals) or cooked by the individual at home prior to going into work.
Re diabetics it depends upon their diet as to whether a microwave will suffice as their meals may not be suitable for microwaving.
What's the alternative? A proper cooker where the individual stands and cooks for a long time away from the workplace? If so who cleans up and there is added hazards involved i.e. fire and food hygiene.
