Asbestos Awareness Training - trainer competence?

Hi, just had a chat with a colleague who has been asked to provide/deliver the above training.
Between us we cannot find any requirement for competence for the trainer of such a course.
We know the requirements placed on asbestos removal contractors but is this a flaw in the plan?
The Regs mention adequate training for workers but nothing for the training provider.
Can anyone provide any info?

ACOP L143, para 139
"All training should be provided by someone who is competent to do so, who
has had adequate personal practical experience and who has a theoretical
knowledge of all relevant aspects of the work being carried out by the employer."

For licensed and asbestos essentials workers you really should look for a UKATA trainer. For genmeral awareness the ACOP advice needs to be followed. Alas many trainers are still calling it the control of asbestos at work regulations 2006!!

Within UKATA there are three levels of Training
Class 1, 2 and 3 and these equate to Licensed, Non Licensed and Asb Awareness.
All the training organsiations / instructors / courses & course material are all independantly audited by external H&S people who have in depth asbestos knowledge and experience (Who are NOT Asbestos Trainers - so independent)
You have to agree and undertake this if you want to badge your course as UKATA.
The standards are quite strict as the knowledge on this subject has to be spot on.
I would always recommend that a UKATA training organisation is used.
