Posted By Mark Eden I received a letter from a well known provider of first aid training yesterday informing me of the Changes to the First Aid Regulations on October 01 and the actions the company should take of contacting them for advice at a price. As far as I am aware there is a revision to the Guidance notes only not the Regs or the ACOP. I know there is going to be a change in the training requirements for first aiders, but has any one come across this miss informed touting for business and is this not a breech of trading standards?

Posted By martinw Mark I'm sure you know but Trading Standards legislation does not really exist under that name anymore apart from a little bit of the original act: much more likely to be covered by THE CONSUMER PROTECTION FROM UNFAIR TRADING REGULATIONS 2008 and THE BUSINESS PROTECTION FROM MISLEADING MARKETING REGULATIONS 2008. Ths latter one prohibits misleading business to business marketing if it is likely to change your economic behaviour, eg to buy something you would not have otherwise without being misled into doing so. Worth reporting though.

Posted By FAH Hi Mark There are substantial changes to the training requirements that are essential to demonstrate that your First-Aider is acceptably competent. Primarily these changes relate mainly to the course durations, the nomenclature for those designated as having First-Aid functions, & the change-over from the "old" [existing] regime to the new. However, none of these changes should cause you to do anything substantial in addition to what you should already be doing! Frank Hallett

Posted By LMR L74 First Aid in workplace is due to be reissued soon with the new guidelines for training and refresher training and details of the new post for emergency first aid cover. All of these come into effect from 1st October when the recommendations go to a 3 day course with refressher annually... existing holders do NOT have to go annual until their current permit expires but I suspect that service providers will try and make it otherwise and get an extra two years training costs out of the gullible.

Posted By SJF Sounds like said company is trying to pull a fast one there Mark... The changes are summarised nicely on FAQ pages of the website of the Red Cross First Aid Training website. Have a look there (link below - hopefully ok to post) and that should keep you right. http://www.redcrossfirst...training.co.uk/?page=158

Posted By Dave R Just to clarify re the refresher. This is not mandatory, just a recommendation that first aiders refresh their skills annually, which is of particular benefit to those who qualify and are not called upon for three years.
