Question I have been posed and having a mind blank...;-)
Is there a specific legal duty to undertake Audits of a workplace?
I am looking for a law based answer without quoting HSG65 or British Standards etc

MHSWR Reg5 requires 'monitoring' and 'review' but does not (I believe) mention 'audit' unfortunately.
Within the ACoP (L21) I think it states monitoring should include 'measuring' with routine inspections and checks.

It is a requirement of Regulation 5 of the Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, (Health and Safety Arrangements) but there is more detail in the ACoP and Guidance.
Employers must have arrangements for the effective planning, organisation, control, monitoring and review of the preventive and protective measures, but and yes it is a big but, the arrangements being appropriate, with regard to the nature of the activities and the size of the undertaking.
It does not use the term audit and review, but uses the terms monitor and review!
