Does anyone have any practical expamples they can give or send to me with regards to controlling working at height whilst on the back of a flat bed trailer. This is a big headache at the moment as we are struggling to come up with any practical solutions for it.

My last firm had lots of non palletized goods deliveries on flat bed trailers between sites so they made up a bay for unloading with a scaffold that would go around the sides and back of a backed in trailer.
Goods were then manually unloaded onto a scaffold staging before taken down to the goods in stores level or transferred onto our storage pallets and then moved away by flt.
Prior problems were users lack of awareness of height and falls while carrying loads down steps.

I have a RA that you may be able to cherry pick some thoughts and ideas from.

I had this same problem a few years back when HSE manager for construction company...
I contacted the HSE and asked "why is it ok for someone to stand on the top of a 30" ladder for up to 30 minutes but not on the back of a 6" flatbed truck for 1 minute to hook a chain on to unload rebar....
their reply -- it is ok but we advise basic WAH training and safe access ie fixed ladder...
all this after a Principal Contractor safety person had banned us form doing it this way..

Looking at this at the moment.
We only need to protect our guys for runs of 2.4 metres on the rear of the vehicle.
I am in the process of getting a steel platform on wheels fabricated. 2.5 - 3m long and 1m wide complete with handrails and intermediate handrails that can be wheeled alongside the flat bed.
I think I have also seen in SHP something like an alloy tower / staging that can be erected alongside the vehicle.
