Posted By CFT Andy Far more credible to have an MSc (IMO.) I have the NVQ level 5 and to be honest it is achievable without great difficulty as long as the position you have in industry can tick the right boxes. It would need to be fairly senior to comply with the categories/modules within. An MSc will be about around twice the price as the NVQ on a full-time basis and probably similar if part-time, latter around two years as opposed to 6-12 months for the NVQ5. Of course the biggest single difference will be the taught aspect of the MSc coupled with formal reporting/portfolio that you will undertake. The NVQ is evidence based ... primarily; but you will also need to satisfy the assessor in addition to providing information/proof. On balance I would be heavily biased towards an MSc. Good luck on whatever you decide.

Posted By GaryC40 Not quite as straight forward as that.. For example, Strathclyde University. To the achieve Msc in Safety and Risk Management one has to first of all have a degree or equivalent to gain entry to the course. The equivalent being, Nebosh General + relevant Industry experience and formal training (years) + 6 week entry course Essentials in Safety and Risk Management. After that successfilly complete a Post Graduate Certificate lasting 10 months @ £2,850. A Post Graduate Diploma lasting 10 months @ £2,850. One this is done you can progress to the Msc lasting the same period of time and costing £2,500. The Nebosh Dip may be enough to allow course entry but certainly not to bypass the cert and dip. Don't get me wrong the above course is good with great support but not for the faint hearted. I pulled out at cert level but may proceed to dip then Msc in a few years once fully recovered. GC

Posted By Steve Cartwright A lot will depend on how long ago you did the diploma. I enquired about this a couple of years ago. I was told that because I had done Dip 1 & 2 I only needed to do the last year of the degree, which would have taken me 2 years part time.

Posted By J Knight It depends on the institution; I remember reading on this forum that Portsmouth (I think) accepts the Dip as part completion of the MSc. Don't know if that's true, and I can't find the thread, but I'm sure that's what was said, John
