Posted By TDsafety Hi All I have been tasked with creating a hands on 'Construction sustainability' course. By hands on, i mean not just do, death by power point. I am looking at a few ideas but has anybody got any interactive ideas i could use. I plan to show the film 'An inconvenient truth' and ask questions about what they saw. Any fresher ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

Posted By Robert K Lewis TD I think you will be very lucky if the film gets the response you expect/hope for. It is dogmatic in its viewpoint and has been questioned concerning its accuracy. It might be regarded at the minimum as nothing to do with construction and thus irrelevant. I presume this is an area that you have worked in/are working in, if not you will soon be found out. The obvious current starting point in construction is the SWMP regs and to develop practical exercises around it including discussion of the typical wastes that are encountered on site. You can also try to get people to develop draft plans as are provided by the client/design team for the winning tenderer. You can also set up exercises around landfill shortages and costs to the job.
