Can anyone set my mind at rest, should we insist on our Licensed asbestos surveyor being ABICS accredited, some doubts have been expressed !!

Paul,
Have a look at L143 CAR2006 reg 10, HSG 248 chapter 2 & 3, HSG 247 chapter 4 for more information to help you decide what to do. Having attended a roadshow in the summer run by the BOHS and HSE relating to the revised MDHS100 (Asbestos: The Surveyors` Guide), I know that the ABICs scheme was highly promoted.

Thanks,
The term 'cosy corner' has been used to alert my suspicions, have you users been able to see good practice so that,I can advocate?Yes as a BOHS member also,I wanted to promote the scheme i.e. Competency.

I hold more stock in ABICS than I do with UKAS. Although both are not 100% accurate. What I like about ABICS is that it is a personal accreditation but it is very costly. The problem with UKAS is that it a company wide accreditation and it would be very easy to have your 'mediocre' surveyors off ill or on holiday at the time of audit.

Thanks MW,
It is probably the cost, value for money that concerns them. Our Licensed Contractor produces what to me looks like competent reports, but have bulked at the ABICS scheme.(We made the decision many years ago to only use Licensed contractors even when not essential)

Guys a 'Company' cannot become ABICS as it is specifically designed for an 'individual' one man band type of surveying business as UKAS was to overburdensome and costly.
