Hi,
Can anyone point me towards the most current information on accident statistics for the construction industry and more specifically, if possible, figures assigned to project values or project type, e.g. refurbishments, so that these may be compared to in-house figures.
Idealy such information will include Accident Incidence Rates, Accident Frequency Rates, Accident Severity Rates, Reportable Accident Frequency Rates etc.
Any help would be much appreciated.

The HSE website publishes annual accident statistics by industry and the construction industry is certainly covered.

The Health and safety Execustive does publish detailed statistics on the following types of Construction activities, but they do not publish it on thier website the 4 digit SIC data. I as a matter of habit routinely request the HSE Statistics Unit to provide the 4 digit data and they do it every year. I have given up suggesting to HSE that such queries should be searchable on the HSE website via some form of a database. I guess the reason is that overall, this does not add value in conext of HSE's priorities.
4511 - Demolition & wrecking of buildings
4512 - Test drilling & boring
4521 - General construction of buildings etc
4522 - Erection of roof covering & frames
4523 - Construction of highways, roads etc
4524 - Construction of water projects
4525 - Other construction involving special trades
4531 - Installation of electrical wires / fittings
4532 - Insulation work activities
4533 - Plumbing
4534 - Other building installation
4541 - Plastering
4542 - Joinery installation
4543 - Floor & wall covering
4544 - Painting & glazing
4545 - Other building completion
4550 - Renting of construction equip. & operator
I can e-mail you the 2007/8 provisional data for the above ones.
