Posted By prads In OHSAS 18001:2007, the proedure for risk assessment requires to take into account besides the others:- D. identified hazards originating outside the workplace capable of adversely affecting the health and safety of persons under the control of the organization within the workplace. Does this mean activities in the neighbourhood, terrorism, natural calamities etc?? Can someone give me an example and put me wise on it? Regards, P

Posted By Bob Youel in reality this is nothing new and can be as 'normal' a situation as the potential for violence towards high street cleaners in a given area/situation to the subjects you have quoted

Posted By prads It says 'Control within the workplace'. So, arent we talking about a boundary of the workplace. Is it applicable to a highstreet cleaner who can be called as a 'lone worker' who is outside the workplace. Regards, P

Posted By Stuff4blokes Prads, lightning, flood risks etc can clearly be identified. Also too access/egress via an exposed route, occupational road risks. These may all be addressed by on-site controls such as procedures and hardware.

Posted By CAW Guidance from 18002:2008 In some instances, there can be hazards which occur or originate outside the workplace that can have an impact on individuals within the workplace (e.g. releases of toxic materials from neighbouring operations). Where such hazards are foreseeable, these should be addressed. Your risk assessment should consider theses hazards e.g. what would your control measures be in the event of a release of toxic materials from the firm next door?
