What distance away from a gas govenor would be acceptable for siting a smoking shelter. I know, alarm bells ringing................but is there an acceptable distance within which naked flames should be prohibited? Im looking for Best Practice Guidance?
Also, on a related matter. Someone at work has suggested that the gas govenor is 'designed to leak gas' in order to prevent overheating of a gland within the housing - im dubious to say the least - any gas experts our there?

speak to the gas specialists and your insurers
additionally smoking shelters do not help staff kick the habit and become more healthy and cost companies lots of £!

It depends on the availability of ventilation at the location of the pressure regulator.
The hazardous zone surrounding the regulator depends on the pressures involved, type of mechanical fastening and design of valve i.e. vented vs non vented.
Zone 1 applicable to the vented valve
Zone 2 at any mechanical fastening (non threaded)
Non hazardous if non vented and threaded mechanical fastening.
In reality, given good ventilation there would probably be a zone of negligible extent. However I would suggest at least 2-3 metres separation.

Hi D.
Thanks for that - The shelter is approximately 10 metres from the housing. The shelter is situated higher above the gas govenor - there is a drop of about 4 metres as the shelter is on the roof of a building.
