We currently have in place as part of the application procedure a section on the persons medical history. whilst this has worked fine in the past we are now being asked by our insurance company of any medical which may affect a person driving a company vehicle. Has anyone else been asked for this information and if so how do you keep a persons medical conditions up to date

I'm surprised you can recruit staff asking those sort of questions - at least you might moderate the question and ask only about current and pertinent medical history, ie musculo-skeletal problems, respiratory or heart problems, dermatitis, eyesight etc
And to add to your planning, you might consider also how you will keep the information confidential. When dealing with this sort of information, a breach can be costly and is always totally unacceptable.

Do you have your pre-employment questionnaire screened by an Occi Health Practitioner / provider? You would include 'driving' in the job description. The O H provider can then advise re fit / not fit / fit with restrictions.
Then, have an annual review of all drivers by OH - as you would do to check their licence for points, etc, and also review following any accidents, illness, etc.
Or do you do this screening in-house?
I suggest you think twice about managing this info without an OH practitioner; the OH route is by far the safest and also most accurate route. Medical information being assessed by a medical person.
It's also worth remembering that the individual is obliged to notify the DVLC of any notifiable medical conditions. Do you remind employees of this requirement in your Vehicle Policy? If so, I don't understand what else the insurance company needs.
Have they given you examples of conditions / situations where they would not insure an employee?

We too are looking at reviewing both our pre-employment questionnaire and our annual health assessment questionnaire. Its a difficult one this as i myself cant find much guidance on what you can, or cant ask.
Googles a wonderful tool as it usually comes up with the documents multi national company's, government bodies, or education establishments use so I've used these as a basis, rightly or wrongly.
