Posted By Trevor Tweed Is there likely to be Asbestos in a building built in 1988-89? Where might it be located? I have someone asking if they should carry out an assessment but they don't think their building has any. Thanks for any feedback

Posted By Raymond Rapp Trevor A total ban of asbestos did not occur until 1999 and therefore any buildings built after 2000 can be presumed as not containing asbestos. Generally for buildings built pre 2000 it is assumed that Asbestos Containing Materials (ACMs) are present unless proven otherwise. Depending on the type of building, ACMs could be anywhere in the building, such as, ceiling and wall voids, behind radiators, floor tiles, switch rooms, windows, lagging of pipes and asbestos corrugated cement roofing sheets. A reputable company can be contracted to complete a survey of type 1 or 2, or if demolition type 3. Ray

Posted By Robert K Lewis Trevor As to location - anywhere in the structure of the equipment to the structure. More specifically if you look in MDHS 100 you will find a very useful exploded diagram of a building with typical potential ACMs labelled. It is a very good start point for any newcomer to the problem. Bob
