Following a review of the calculated extent of a potential fireball associated with the recent thread "Propane-vehicle signage". I wish to correct an error in the extent of the fireball as previously advised by me in relation to the 1 litre of propane released and ignited in the rear of the van as discussed.
Assuming that the container is situated on the floor of the van, it is suggested that a hemispherically propogated fireball resulting from the ignition of the 0.5 kg propane would extend for a radius of 0.6 metres and not 0.06 m as previously advised in error.
If the container fell from a shelf or was not in contact with a surface at the point of ignition, the spherical fireball would have a radius of 0.48 metres.
Based on a calculated fuel burn rate of 0.18 kg s-1 and Heat of combustion of 50350 kJkg-1, the radiation from the fireball would be 2718.9 kW.
