Posted By tejuken Dear Forum, How time flies!!A year ago I posted a request for a work placement. Now I have been volunteering, I have developed a health and safety management system from scratch for a small private company that is just starting up. I developed their health and safety policy and procedures, developed training and pre-reading materials, conducted general risk assessment & audit, introduced corrective and preventive measures, developed an action plan for their implementation and advised on other environmental related issues to mention a few. Though I am yet to complete my NEBOSH Diploma due to financial problems, I have been able to prove my skills and ability gained from my environmental management background and experience, knowledge and understanding of environmental and health and safety legislations and consultations with professionals and local authorities. I am currently volunteering in the public sector with a sport club and I hope to use this organisation for the write-up of my Unit D Assignment. With what I have done and still doing, I would like to back these up with on-the-job training course to become "a competent person". Firstly I would like to know the suitable course for a health and safety coordinator who is also involved in giving training. Secondly is this not a waste of financial resource since I have already started the NEBOSH Diploma? And thirdly do I really need any additional health and safety training courses to the NEBOSH Diploma? Your response will be highly appreciated. Thanks to members of this forum for your unflinching support and advice given when the going was really tough. I urge others who we are in the same shoes to be committed, stay focused, and have the determination to succeed. Financially it has not been easy, but looking from where I have started I cannot but appreciate where I am and where I am going. I am currently looking for a paid job. Kind regards, Kenny

Posted By FAH Hi Kenny May I suggest that it appears that what you really need is a suitable mentor to help you pick your way to the level and type of competence that you need. Perhaps a request for such a mentor may be more beneficial as it doesn't ask people to provide definitive answers to incredibly difficult questions. Difficult 'cos the questions are personal to you and what works well for one respondent may not work at all for another. I would try my local IOSH Branch first as they all [to some extent] provide a level of mentoring. Good Luck Frank Hallett
