Posted By Penfold Please help. I am in the final stages to writing an RA on a ladder user. Only 1 guy in the company at the moment that uses a ladder to place "for sale" signage between ground floor and 1st floor windows (where there are no gardens). We have already established that he is not to go any further than 2 meters. I have covered all risks. My question is, apart from the daily visual checks of the ladder, how often should carry out a detailed periodic inspection? Also, has anyone got any checklists? Thanks if anyone can help

Posted By A Campbell Penfold, Is the 2 metre rule your own company policy when using ladders?

Posted By Ian Blenkharn You could include an instruction to take them down, completely and within the proscribed time limit when the sale is complete

Posted By Penfold yes, the 2 meter rule is in the company policy. Any wotk above the 2 meters or where there is difficult access, they hire in a contractor.

Posted By Dave Merchant Masses of stuff on the HSE website - search for ladders - the frequency of inspection depends on how much they get used and where; some companies do it every year, some every month.

Posted By Phil Rose Penfold - you might want to have a look at Ladderstore.com, I believe that they have a ladder checklist and a management pack

Posted By Penfold Thanks for the replies. I've downloaded the check list, and will have a look around the ladderstore website in the morning. Thanks again

Posted By grim72 I have sent you some info on the tagging and inspection systems that we produce - have the added advantage of producing a duplicate copy of all inspections as part of your audit trail. Let me know if it is of interest.
