We have employees who will be required to litter pick a flat roof surface on a weekly basis. At present there is no type of edge protection or fall prevention in place, so we are unable to commence work.

Can anybody recommend a company which in the south which specialise in work at height that could advise on the best type of edge protection for this site.

Any help appreciated

try the usual google search this should bring up a number of companies local to yourself.
have same issue but people maintaining plant and we have freestanding barriers around the edges which do the job, no need to nail down etc, just got to be aware of the rubber/concrete footing pad holding down the barrier, but it keeps them away from the edge

Difficult to comment without seeing the roof or knowing the circumstances but the first approach would surely be to prevent work at height in the first instance. Can you prevent the littering on the roof? Can a device be used to pick up the litter without going on the roof (long handed grabbers)? Like I said difficult to offer advice without knowing the circumstances or seeing the roof.

Can't help for suppliers in your area though.

Morgan, thanks for the comments, will try google again but most results bring up companies further up the country. i was ideally looking for one closer to home but if needs must will look at one further a field.

Clairel,

thanks for the comments. unfortunately, it is necessary to do the work as other avenues have been explored such as preventing the littering but they so far have been unsuccessful. The size of the roof means it is impractical to use long handed grabbers.

I know of a company called Checkmate UK based in Kent (I think) - try a web search. They specialise in harnesses and fall arrest systems and produce a portable anchor system that is essentially a 'bladder' that you fill with water and can attach a lanyard to it. Whilst this won't give you edge protection it will enable you to access your roof safely at significantly less cost. When empty the 'bladder' is portable and can be easily transferred to another area and refilled.

PS I do not work for the company, just use some their products. Hope this helps.
