For the end result we are looking at achieving diploma and the depth of knowledge that goes with it. My query is acceptability! British Safety Council does a Diploma which is to all intent not dis-similar to NEBOSH Diploma. Level 6 and with official accreditation, recognised by employers and eqivalent to NEBOSH Dip. Forms part or all of entry requirement to Msc... So there's nothing missing, no reason to choose one over the other apart from choice? I don't even know if one is more popular than the other, even though popularity doesn't affect the action of eduction. Please do enlighten me how you feel should it be opinion or fact based? Regards Neil

Oh dear. This subject again.
Now sit back and wait for all the different opinions. Generally those that have NEBOSH see it as the be all and end all (in my experience - sorry to offend) and those that haven't don't!
I don't have the NEBOSH (went a different route) and I don't think NEBOSH is the be all and end all BUT many employers etc are limited in their knowledge and are only aware of NEBOSH.
NEBOSH diploma is definately more known than the BSC diploma but I have no opinion or knowledge as to which is the better diploma.

I think you said it all in your original post Neil. Both lead to the same end result ie gradIOSH status so IOSH certainly seem to rank them as being equivalent to each other. As far as I can see from doing the NEBOSH Diploma and subsequently comparing it to the material publicising the BSC version there doesn't seem to be much difference in course content. So all things being equal there is nothing to choose between the two IMO.
The main thing is, just like passing a driving test, it's what you do and learn from that point on that matters. Both will open the door to IPD and that in my view is where you start to learn and demonstrate competence on the way to CMIOSH. At this point let me say that I am not in any way discounting previous experience or anyone who has arrived at gradIOSH by another route, all of which are equally valuable, I am merely making my comments in the context of the original post.

Wow guys, the feedback is great and so fast! Because I'm self funding and in transition between redundancy and applying for new jobs, my consideration toward a new employer is important, such as time off required. I don't expect my new employer to automatically give me time off freely, although I'm sure most would or at least allow the time off unpaid. So it is right for me to ensure I can do the course work during my time. My new employer once found, needs to see my honesty and integrity, for my part I just want to move my loyalty to the next employer.
NEBOSH tutoring seems to be 40 to 45 days classroom based and at high cost. BSC Diploma however, is that bit cheaper and because I achieved a CREDIT in the general cert, I can do the route 2 where only 4 weeks of classroom is required, the rest is distance/self learning. I want some classroom learning as I do favour it for my learning style. I know I can do the course by e-learning totally but at home in family life, there are many distractions for me. If it were not for the distractions then I would do it all e-learning. As I said earlier guys, thanks for the responses as it is much appreciatted. You are helping to mold my life.

I have completed the British Safety Council Diploma through the four week period and found it to be interesting and covering what was required, plus gained GradIOSH.
I am also part completed of the NEBOSH Diploma (Completed Unit A & B) via e learning, this has proved more difficult but the lack of support from the training provider is the main issue here and not the course.
I like the two exams and the two assignment approach from British Safety Council as the assignments help to incorporate the information you need to present in a format that is familiar to you and your work settings.
All in all I would say depends on who you use for the courses rather than the course information; either way could result in difficulties if you do not choose a tutor/provider correctly; added bonus being BSC use only their own tutors I believe.
Best of luck in whichever route you choose!
