Afternoon all, Is anyone aware of requirements for testing of fire dampers in ventilation ducts? Obviously you can't actually 'see' the dampers, so what should building owners be doing?

Two aspects spring to mind, if it’s a relatively new building i.e. built under CDM, the information should be in the buildings safety files. For older buildings, and we have many ourselves, we tend to test the dampers when we do a clean of the ducts every 3 years. This 3 yearly test is a full test i.e. air tightness, smoke seals and springs etc. We do however, test the fire alarm system and its instigation every year as part of the alarms, detectors and emergency light test program (you can hear the dampers ‘slam’ home when they activate). On our high hazard areas where we do have flammables in larger quantities we do test more frequently and have them as part of the LEV maintenance list. L
