Hi all, Quick question... We have a large asbestos survey project starting on 30th November 2009 with an end date of 12th March 2010. Surveys are being taken from all over the Northern part of the country. We are using one asbestos consultancy to carry out the surveys. Does this project require an F10? I think it does, but I'm still quite new to the CDM side of H&S so could use some advice. Many thanks in advance.

Don't think a survey would come in to the definition of construction.... John

Surveying is excluded from F10 notification as it is not "Construction Work" within the definition in the CDM Regulations.

well that's a great start to using the new forum! Only taken me until today to actaully log on and managed to loose the first post... obviuously becoming too old for this I think the answers given would appear to be correct for this survey. For others particularly T3 surveys then there is an argument that these are moving to SI and could trigger the con phase. Thjat is before you get interesting interpreations of the licensing regs by some HSE offices and before the complication of the new survey guide... as ever the devil is in the detail. Cheers Bruce

The only time this would be notifiable would be if it was co terminous with the setting up of the construction site. A survey on its own would not be notifiable if was not part of a construction activity.

the query is over investigation as opposed to survey - as there has not been clarification then politely suggest that what you are saying is simplistic - having had some experience in the matter then merely suggesting that care is appropriate. Cheers Bruce
