Is anyone aware of what the equivalent might be of CDM in France, Italy and Spain? I have tried Google all morning and no luck.

Yes there is . Specifics for designers in France and similar CDM type requirements for Spain imposed through "Real Decree " legislation. Take a look at

No, I have given up the life of a £multi-million sportsman to become plough my trade in the world of Health and Safety.

Only now do I get the job satisfaction that I always desired. You may think it is the high life to play football for 5 of the biggest clubs in Europe, but I can tell you there is nothing better than the thought of reviewing risk assessments and coshh data sheets!!
