Most Recent Employment

In my most recent role as Senior Health and Safety Assistant I provide CDM Coordinator assistance to construction projects. I am responsible for: managing the flow of information between all parties to a construction project as well as providing competent health and safety advice to all parties and ensuring compliance with statutory regulations. The job requires excellent communication skills, as well as an understanding of design related health and safety issues. To be successful in this role one has to be fully up to date on the CDM Regulations 2007 and not be afraid to challenge all parties involved in a project when necessary. The role included working on confidential projects such as HMS Prisons.
Previous Employment

Between May and June 2006 I was employed on a temporary contract as a Health and Safety Manager, during the temporary maintenance of a turbine. Duties included daily inspections of the turbine area, daily reports to the project manager, providing general health and safety advice to employees, carrying out risk assessments, COSHH assessments, health and safety inductions, manual handling assessments and the production of safe working methods.

I started my working career in 2000 with Dukeries as an apprentice plumbing and heating engineer. Upon qualifying in 2003 I chose to move my career into Health and Safety and completed further training to be engaged as Health and Safety Officer.
At Dukeries I was responsible for the preparation of construction phase plans and method statements / risk assessments for all site operations. I also helped to identify the need for training amongst employees and delivered training in the following areas: CDM, working at heights, asbestos, manual handling, COSHH, and general health and safety awareness and inductions.
I was also involved in with the development of CDM manuals, and company wide health and safety policies and procedures. I monitored, and investigated accidents and helped to develop new ways of recording accident statistics in order to improve safety culture and provide a proactive response to health and safety in the work place.
General Health and Safety History

The varied nature of my professional history means that I have a unique understanding of both the planning and design aspects of CDM as well as having a good understanding of how best to implement health and safety within a contracting environment. I have vast experience on ISO Management Standards and other Awarding Bodies such as CHAS of which I have helped companies gain in recent years.
Selected Professional History

During my career I have been involved in providing health and safety advice and assistance on a large number of projects ranging in value £1,000 to £25 M. I have provided health and safety assistance to the following clients: Nottinghamshire Police remodifications, HMP sites all over the UK, Yates Wine Lodge upgrades, Bovis Homes and Barret Homes new build construction sites, works for numerous County Councils including minor highway improvements and bridge maintenance works.

Key Skills
My key skills would include but are not limited to: facilitating good communication; undertaking site audits/inspections; undertaking risk, COSHH, fire, manual handling and VDU assessments; undertaking health and safety training and inductions; providing general health and safety advice; producing safe working methods; inspecting safety equipment; accident recording/monitoring and analysis and ensuring compliance with the CDM Regulations.
Hobbies/ Interest
I am an established musician, and play Lead guitar / vocals in a popular tribute band. I also enjoy off – road motorcycle’s and recording music for other local bands and teaching children and adults guitar.

It’s really tough at the mo Greendate. I’ve now got nothing till 2010 and I know of many others like me:- 20yrs+ experience in the industry, Chartered Practitioner, Environmental and Quality qualifications, Lead Auditor, Trainer, CDM-C etc……………..

I was offered some work the other day (£6ph - honestly!) but that meant driving 40miles (80miles each day) to their offices each day and the hours didn’t stack-up?
I really don’t believe things will pick up till New Year!

If I hear of anything, would it be ok to PM you directly?

Sorry, if my post sounds negative, but the current climate is harsh at the mo. How far you able to travel and what areas of safety you able to work/specialise in? Have you got registered with IOSH at any level yet?
