We have our own mobile city crane working on a site using a man basket for access into a pumping station. Because the crane is lifting persons does it have to have a six monthly inspection by law, bearing in mind it is only occasionally used for lifting persons, or is the 12 monthly adequate? Any comments would be appreciated.

If a piece of lifting equipment is used for lifting people it must be inspected 6 monthly.
How occassionally is it used for this? if it is once or twice a year then time it so that that work is done within 6 months of the test, that way whenever you lift poeple the kit has been tested within 6 months. If it is more frequent then test every 6 months.
A thorough examination twice a year instead of once will not incur an awful lot of additional costs.

Afternoon all,
If you are referring to the city crane it Must be certified as a Man Riding Crane. The requirements differ regarding the rams for the booms etc brakes have to be tested differently to. BS7121 2006 general, testing, and mobile cranes clarifies.
