Having dealt with Abu Dhabi Civil Defence on many, many occasions I am aware that they are sticklers for American standards for fire safety i.e NFPA codes. I assume that health and safety will follow the same general approach.

No doubt you will be polite and courteous, that is important.
Also My experience with Civil Defence was they don't like dealing with 'youngsters'. It got to a point where they refused to see anyone acting as a fire engineer unless that person was a chartered engineer with 15 years experience. As far as I know that still stands today.

Thank you for all of your replies. I will check buildsafeuae.com.

The industry I'm in is facility management not construction, I gather fire safety will be a hot topic for me then. Our organisation manage a host of clients primarily schools, offices, warehouses and data centres.

shaunmckeever - could you let me know is it the US standards they vere towards more as opposed to EU? or is that jsut in terms of fire safety?

Thanks again,

G

Abu Dhabi is the first Emirate in Middle east to introduce EHSMS law, which is applicable only in Abu Dhabi.

According to this new EHSMS regulation, Industries in Abu Dhabi has been grouped into seven sectors (Oil & gas, Energy, construction, transport, health, Industry and tourism) and each entity under these sectors need to develop and implement Environment, Health and Safety management system which will be audited by the regulatory authorities.

This requirements of this new EHSMS regulation is similar to OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001. Refer below link for full details.

Grace my experience is limited to fire safety so cannot be too certain about the other fields of H&S but Dinesh seems to have a good idea about what is going on.
