As a warehousing company we unload shipping containers on a daily basis. The containers are seal with a thick hardened steel bolt which we break using bolt croppers. One of our guys has reported that he has injuried his arm whilst using the bolt croppers. My question is; does anyone know of an alternative method of removing these seals.

Was the injury caused by the use of manual croppers or by the bolt flying off and hitting him? If it's the former then a quick Google shows a number of electric and hydraulic bolt cutters that may do the trick.

... and if the latter, a small plastic deflecting shield would stop flying bolts coming backwards.

We use a scaffold type pole on the bolt and bend it until it snaps, just a thought.
