Hi All I have been tasked with writting a new H & S policy statement, when I look at all the statements out there they are very similiar and would like to bring a new format which is both exciting yet readable. Too much info turns people off but need to make an impact. I thought that if all the directors signed the bottom would be one way but any other ideas to enhance a statement would be great. I would then use this type for environmental and energy policy statements Cheers Alan

You could probably get it down to half an A4, if quick succinct statements are made, similar to/or even bullet pointed, as long as it covered the requirements such as protection of all, resourcing, co operation of employees, person who is directly charged with administering the policy, frequency of review, signed and dated as applicable etc.

Give it impact, a photo of the director(s) signing it, and perhaps a photo of the H&S 'manager' (unless you're an ugly git like me!) use colour, make it look intersting, even if too many the actual content is boring! Be succint, sincere and not too 'fanciful' - give it clarity. Use some bold fonts, or different coloured fonts to accentuate any key messages. Ramble over!

I have one addition, our HSE policy includes a clear statement about everyone is allowed to stop work in case of iminant danger. All other requirments are the same or similar, you can cross reference your major Hazards in the policy. But as far as the signatures goes, I think it should be one, who is accountable for the policy content and its application. Regards Al

Cheers for your input everyone I have written a policy statement with the usual stuff from HASWA section 20 with one signature as I agree the point Al made I have followed this with a H&S policy with key points and all directors signed as a strong managerial commitment to the policy I have seperated this out as Phil suggested using different fonts & colours although not being to photogenic myself I resisted on the photograph front. In the mean time happy xmas everyone and have a good new year Kind Regards Alan
