I have just read a case where a company has been prosecuted after an employee fell 20 feet to the ground. The outcome was a fine £2,400 and £9,162 costs.
I am aware that fines are not a tax deductable expense for the company but I'm not so sure about the costs. If the costs are a tax deductable expense, surely this means that the government is paying almost 50% of this and, in the case above, substantially reduces the impact of the overall penalty for the offence.
Does anyone know if court costs are a Tax deductable expense?
