Why is it that IOSH cover a story under the heading 'Industry news' on the webpage, yet when it is posted on the discussion pages the moderators lock the thread. Obvious worth IOSH reporting on it, but not worth discussion, even if the responses are lighthearted banter.

OK, found it. Tesco ban on shopping in PJ's. I'll go back to sleep now.

If I may indulge in some speculation, perhaps someone in the Press Association who supplied the newsfeed to IOSH thought "elf'n'safety innit?" and bookmarked it as such. Well no, actually it isn't, it's etiquette as far as we (the mod's) can see. Not even the article linked to raises the H&S issues. This is the problem with automatic newsfeeds I'm afraid - a few will always get through.

Must admit i only used the old forum for about 4 months before the new one was introduced, but there seems to be a lot of threads bocked or under discussion then i remember on the old forum. and probably a lot more moderators then members on site at any given time!!

Thank you moderator for taking the time to explain instead of just blocking the thread. Do you remember the good old forum when there used to be quite a lot of serious debate, criticism, arguements and a lot of banter. In my opinion and that of others if you read the pages, a lot of this has gone and so have alot of the people who used to post or reply.

Farrell - becasue the ensuing discussion was nothing to do with health and safety in the main? Good reason I would have thought. Sean - I think it's just that locked or blocked threads are easier to see now. The old forum had its fair share of "this post cannot be displayed at this time" threads too. Actually a lot of the blocked or locked threads are where threads have been moved from the members' forum after being posted there by people who haven't bothered to read which forum is for what...

Moderator 3. Also my thanks for the explanation - I was just curious as to what the story was and clearly didn't look hard enough before posting the first time around. However on eventually finding the story I can see why it was locked and my view coincides with yours, it's not really an "elf and safety" story and unfortunately some of these may still manage to get through to the industry news section from time to time.

Maybe it should have been left till friday. I didn't read or post it, I just replied as I had heard about it on the news and thought it would have just led to some banter and I wanted to get in first.

At the risk of being chastised by a Mod, can I suggest that the offending article is removed from the IOSH Home Page if it is not deemed to be health and safety article. There should be some parity within these forums and site.

Unfortunately Mods can't do that Ray, we can only do stuff here, but the Webteam may be able to help.

Tom answered this one on 18 November here: http://forum.iosh.co.uk/...aspx?g=posts&t=92688 Apparently this platform wont support a spell checker (for reasons I don't understand). We take your point about the swear filter though, it's just not cunning enough.
