Hi all, We have been asked to work on a few rear gardens which have contaminted land. There is a waste removal company who have been instructed to remove 600mm of soil and then for us to go in and dig fence posts into the ground. Originally the firm was going to dig out 1000mm of soil but they then dropped down to 600mm. I think this may be due to cost. The contaminant is called "blue billy". I have never had any dealings with this before but i am told by the waste company that it is unharmful to humans. I cant seem to find any relevant info on the net. Can anyone please confirm that it is of no harm to humans. Thank you,

Thanks for the link safetysmurf :) Hmmm seems like it contains some nasty stuff. The removal firm are saying that they will have removed all of it but im not so sure. After a site visit will be more assured as it states it is easily identifiable, So maybe just a case of PPE which is changed after every days use if its not visible ? Thoughts . .

Have the removal contractors done this sort of work before? If so, could you find out about some of their previous projects?

is this a notifiable CDM job &/or does SWMPR apply - I would find out if I were you as if so some more details will be available from the person/s coordinating the plans under those laws - if not your client under CDM [ if the work is not notifiable] should also have info irrespective of the above get hold of the environmental survey as that should give you details

get the survey details stating that all such stuff has been removed and then work as if the stuff is still present just in case

If he won't give you that written confirmation, move on and forget the job - its not worth the risk [Or get the waste removal contractor to dig the post holes for you]
