I have noticed that some final exit doors with mag locks have a press button for normal exit and an emergency break glass for use in an emergency. Am I correct in thinking that this is required so that if pressed the door remians open, or is there another reason? I have also noticed that some final doors only have a normal exit button and no emergency release, is that also correct? I have even noted that for some buildings where secirity is important there is no switch to open the fire door even a green emergency box, but the door is supposed to release if the fire panel is activated. Is there a quick guide to all these variations. I suspect they may be a conflict between securirty and fire safety. Comments please.

Hi, You should find the current requirements for emergency/panic exit devices operated by a horizontal bar, lever bar or push pad for use on escape routes in BS EN 1125 and BS EN 179. I think there is a need to consider whether the occupants can be expected to be familiar with the devices or not, if not push bars are probably best. Cheers Steve
