We have a robust management system for control of HAV however a question was raised about short term exposure over the limit value. We work on a points system with the limit value of 2000 pts / 5 day week - our aim is to keep employees well under this limit and do so effectively.
If someone was exposed to 3000 points for two weeks would this necessarily cause any long term health effects/damage in the individual?
My response was that I didn't think it would as the damage is usually cumulative over time and anything I've read about VWF, RSI or Carpal Tunnel syndrome refer to repetetive damage. Any medics out there who could help with this one?
Thanks

the regs specify daily exposure action levels (100 points) and daily action limits (8HrTWA) (400 points per day). But you already know this.
Your method of calculating a 5 day exposure does not appear to be inline with this.
Consider that some days may exceed exposure limits considerably, other days may have little or no exposure at all.
With regard to your question "3000 points for two weeks would this necessarily cause any long term health effects/damage in the individual" the answer is yes, highly likely.
Also consider that 10% of the population can be affected by HAVS from a exposure well below the Exposure Action Level of 2.5
