Oil and gas - BSc(hons) or Nebosh diploma?

Hello
After trying to find a HSE position in the oil and gas industry with no luck I have come to the conclusion that I need to further my certification and am debating about which route to go. It seems that most of the jobs I have looked at are asking for a degree(quite a few want engineering), does this mean that the Nebosh diploma does not hold as much weight in the O&G industry or would it be classed as an equivalent? Is there anybody that works in this sector that may be able to offer me sound advice on which routes I could take, maybe extra certification that could give me an edge towards finding work.
As it stands my safety certificates are distinctions in Nebosh general, Nebosh construction and Nebosh fire management aswell as four years experience as an advisor on railway projects and construction sites, could this allow me to bypass the first 2 years of the BSc and complete only the third year as I have been told about being able to transfer qualifications and experience .
Thank you

There are different types of role off-shore etc hence most adverts are requiring specific qualifications in specific areas as the roles can be very specialised
I would get as many academic qualifications and experience [even undertake free work if you want things that badly] as you can and keep a look out and attend as many IOSH and other meetings, seminars etc as you can
Best of luck
