Hello
I am posting this thread to see if somebody can give me some advice and possibly some leads.
After being made redundant and then having a successful short term contract I have decided to join the big guns and set up a health and safety advisory business for small local businesses that are unable to afford a full time health and safety person or are not able to find the time to implement legislation within the organisation.
I am based in the Shropshire area, however I am willing to travel.
I have an array of qualifications, NEBOSH General, NEBOSH Fire Safety, and have attended many construction courses.
Any advice or assistance is greatly received.
Emsie

Hi Emsie, good luck with the consultancy. Lots has been written on these forums so search some other threads. My advice would be to go for the diploma and then CMIOSH as this seems to be the accepted consultancy 'level'. The diploma is a lot of work (I am half way though the BSC variant) but it does confirm the adage 'the more you know you know, the more you know you don't know'

Hi Emsie,
You posted a few times on my recent thread and in response no I didn't get the post (you MUST have applied for that one if you live in Shropshire?). I was however offered a post the day after receiving the "sorry but" letter and started this week.
Anyhow, good luck with your quest and having researched that route myself over the last six months I know how difficult it is. Why not put a few feelers out to do a bit of freelance work? It has its downfalls I know but it may furnish you with some decent contacts. Also try joining some local health and safety organisations e.g. BHSEA based in Brum..looks good for networking..easy to locate on the internet and only costs just over £30 per year for individuals.
All the best.
