I'm after the correct definiton of an electrical installation. The EAW Regs refer to a system not an installation. I don't have a copy of the Wiring Regs. Is there a definition in there of an 'installation' and would anyone be kind enough to share it with me?
Thanks!

There is Claire, but I don't think that you will find it very useful:
"An assembly of associated electrical equipment having co-ordinated characteristics to fulfil specific purposes."
The 'system' referred to in EAW includes the supply, right through to the plugged in appliance.
I would refer to it as a 'Fixed wiring installation' if referring to the bit between the main fuse and the socket outlet...

Also do not forget that the IEE regs; which many quote; are not statute law regulations as many think that they are, so use all things as references only noting that the EAW is the law
The concept of 'system' once it is in your head becomes easy to fit into all electrical situations as a system [ and all its com, ponants] is just a way of moving electrical current from one place to another e.g. a piece of cable just lying on the floor in a mess as well as a fully installed [fixed to the wall etc via a professional process] cable are both systems as they are both moving electricity from one place to another.
