I am presently carrying out a risk assessment and supervising works for a company that is carrying out removal / demolition works. part of the works is removal of ACM. I've got an idea on how to go about it. Is there any body who can help about the format of the assessment/ method statement to be carried out for the removal of asbestos?

Louis Assuming it is notifiable you should use a licenced contractor to do the removal of ACMs. The contractor should also provide you with a method statement and RAs for the work.

There MUST be a asbestos survey conducted by an accredited company, any asbestos MUST then be removed by a specialist company and any waste removed by a specialist waste removal company. If this is a demolition job then this should be considered at the planning stage and if a CDMC is involved then they should be giving the relivent advice. If you dont know what you are doing with asbestos, then i strongly suggest you leave it to a specialist. PS i am not an asbestos specialist but know enough to give the above advice.

xRockape, you obviously don't know enough. I suggest you attend an asbestos awareness course. Yes, a survey. BUT low grade asbestos (eg asbestos cement, floor tiles etc) does not need to be removed by a licenced asbestos contractor nor specialised company. Equally the same low risk types of asbestos can be double bagged and transported safely to a designated waste facility by non-specialised waste removal companies. Obviously for high risk asbestos containing materials a licensed contractor is required. A survey will determine the type of asbestos. However, Asbestos Essentials (available for free from the HSE website) gives details on how to carry out non-licensed work. My comment to the original post is that your status remains unclear. Are the company you work for licensed to remove asbestos? If so it sounds like you are not the person to be carrying out risk assessments nor method statements as you clearly don't know enough. If you are not a licensed company to remove licensed asbestos then you shouldn't be doing the risk assessment either you need to contract out the work to licensed contractors. However, if it is non-licensed work you can use Asbestos Essentials as a guide.

In this project my position is that of Project supervisor (OHS). I have previous experience on ACM removal, the only thing I am after is a format of how to carry out the paper work.
