Hi All,
A company has been enquiring as to my interest in a position in China, of course the first question will be what kind of money will I be looking for. Does anybody have any experience/knowledge of project safety managers rates and the common terms and conditions for work in that part of the world. I dont want to sell myself short but at the same time dont want to blow myself out of the equation with an asking rate that is just too high either.
Any thoughts would help.
Thanks
GS

Did they find you or respond to your application?
If the former, it could well be a scam.

Good luck with them.
Sorry but I haven't got a clue what the going rate is for an expat in China.

Hi grandpasimpson,
Working in Asia for a couple of years (Vietnam, Malaysia) I found the void between what some people earn is astronomical. I was on 1000usd a month, about 500 quid. But then other expats were earning that in a day + benefits. It very much depends if you’re going up against locals for the position. If they are looking to relocate you and family + company car + health care (VERY IMPORTANT ISSUE ESPECIALLY FOR THE OVER 40's and make sure it includes health care for family included if they are moving too, preferably with someone like BUPA or international SOS) to work in petrochemicals e.t.c. then you could probably look up to 750usd a day. But if it's a small manufacturing plant and you could be housed locally, you can probably expect 6 months on, 2 weeks off, with flights paid to return to your family, local medical cover, for a minimum of about 2000usd a month. This probably hasn't helped to much, but hopefully explains some of the benefits you can expect.
