Does anybody have some information (or tell me where I can find it) on what statutory appointments a company must have in place? Thanks!

KEF2, you're going to need to tell us a little about your company before anyone can answer that. Certain types of activities require statutory appointments.

Well as I don't think anybody else has attempted an answer I will- as far as health and safety goes anyway, your employer is required under the 'management' regs to appoint someone competent to help you meet your health and safety duties.

This is not strictly true, the organisation must have access to competent advice in regards to safety this does not mean that a safety person must be employed.

Well I hate to stae the obvious BUT the original question was about APPOINTMENTS and I did NOT say that they had to be EMPLOYED, I said "..your employer is required under the 'management' regs to APPOINT someone.." So I think my post WAS strictly true! See management regs reg 7(1) which says that employers shall APPOINT - http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/priced/l21.pdf

KEF2, your question's a bit of a 'how long is a piece of string'. Can't imagine that your company is brand new so it may be that you're new to the job and some know-all has said something like "we need statutory appointments 'cos of the elf & safety". There's all sorts of appointments that may be necessary depending on what you people are involved in (e.g. first-aiders, risk assessors) but statutory stuff tends to be tied to certain high risk activities (e.g. Radiation Protection Supervisors and Advisors). Suggest you have a look at the HSE's starter pack stuff and come back with another question. http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/indg259.pdf
