Can anybody assist in where I can find information relating to where accelerometers should be located when used for HAV on had-held tools. I understand how they work but am struggling with the location. Any help would be appreciated. Regards Paul

Paul, as close to wherever the hands are when the tool is in use. You might have to monitor right and left hand on some tools, in which case use the highest level to determine exposure time. Holmezy

With the greatest respect - it strikes me that if you don't know where to put it then I have to seriously question whether you should even be putting it anywhere or attempting any measurements; i.e. are you competent to do so and if not what would be the 'validity' of the measurements and subsequent assessment? I went to a joint HSE/EEF conference some time ago and the HSE vibration guru was 'sceptical' to say the least about the accuracy of vibration measurements, saying that consecutive measurements of equipmennt with the same piece of kit often gave significantly different readings. Just had a quick look at the INVC website which suggest that some measurements can 'under read' by a factoor of x20 !

I understand that it is a complicated subject and it was a general enquiry. I do not deem myself in any way shape or form competent to carry out HAV measurement, it was as I stated before a general enquiry. Holmezy - Many thanks for your positive reply, most helpful and it would appear the best I am going to get Many Thanks to all

Hi, Agree totally with Phil R., that is my experience having attended several seminars on the subject; the difficulties of taking HAV measurements, accuracy/precision of the results and how meaningful they are when taken by anyone (even after training) other than an expert was a constant theme.
