I guess there are potentially any number of answers (although none so far) and I wonder if it is worth sitting down with your HR team or training and development officer (if you have one) and working out what you future ambitions are, the needs of your current employer and try to work out a training plan from there.

No quick answer to this one, but might I suggest that you think about which direction that you'd like to go in? It's a bit like medicine, there are many fields that you can choose. The 'Diploma' is of course a stand and is seen by many as a prerequisite, but as you indicate, there are other routes to demonstrating your credentials. I would advise a good grounding in general safety practice first and the attendance of some focused courses on the basics such as fire, risk assessment, WAH and the like. The Diploma cannot always cover everything is as much detail as you might want is is ultimately a test of what you know, not just what you learn on the course. But of course none of this is a substitute for good experience, but that's another topic.

Hi thanks for everyone valued input, I working in the care sector especially in challenging behaviours. sadly due to cutbacks there is no longer a HR dept, I have various certificates from training including the CIEH trainers award, the C&G 7303 delivering learning, IOSH managing & directing safely awards. also level 3 in health and social care.
I aim to achieve the A1 & then the V1 NVQ awards, this year. I wish to become a consultant in the care sector. I am also looking at completing the 2nd part of the 7303 to gain what was the Cert Ed (I believe?).
I have approx 20 years H&S experience 12 in manufacturing and warehousing. but I enjoy working with behavioural risk management. I have created and delivered learning packages aimed at staff, management and service users with behavioural and learning difficulties with success. As well as create and implement successful, policies, risk assessment, care planning, monitoring and measuring systems.
I hope this gives more insight as I appreciate that precise advice can't be given on limited information.
Kindest Regards
Steve

Since you have NVQ4 I don't know what you would gain by doing the NEBOSH Dip; it's the same level (one of the very rare cases where 4=6).
I think if I was looking to be a consultant in the Care Sector and I already had NVQ4/Dip and hence CMIOSH, I would be looking to do some sector specific training. Maybe NAPI train the trainers or some sort of behavioural science qualification. Maybe a Diploma in Healthcare practice? Otherwise, if you are set on H&S type qualifications I would suggest a Masters, or the IRM Diploma in Risk Management (I'm doing that and it has helped me enormously).
I am Head of Risk & Safety for a major care charity, by the way,
John
