Scenairo is a hotel that want to telivise world cup matches on their premises. Management have concerns that trouble may occur and are worried about their responsibilities in respect of having a formal risk assessment in respect of customers fighting each other!
Attendees are expected to be hotel guests only and not persons off the street as it were. The management are reluctant to emplyee door staff but at the same time do not want their employees to act as 'enforcers'. I have some ideas including limiting numbers, considering use of plastic drinking glasses, briefing staff on violence and aggression etc, but would welcome any (sensiible please, I know it is Friday!) suggestions.
Cheers.

Hi Decimomal. Surely the hotel must already have a procedure in place to deal with unruly guests and protect their staff? It does not require a football match to start trouble and the staff are always oin the front line.

I agree David but their concern is do they need a 'specific' R/A for this secenario.
I don't think the issue is around their general duties toward 3rd parties, but more of a what if there was a fight between 2 guests and one were to put in a civil claim against the hotel for not protecting them from such an event (in the case of injury).
It may appear a bit far fetched but that is where they are!

I would suggest that their systems should aleady be robust enough. Pensioners party, hen night, stag do, football match - they are all collections of people consuming alcohol on the premises. The only way the I think the company could be liable was if they supplied alcohol to people already under the influence, or was guilty of not controlling their guests at the onset of arguments, or allow the wearing of football colours. Damage to the hotels reputation would be a bigger threat i fear. Do they not have CCTV in the bar area?
Do they need an specific assessment? I would say no - but check what they already have in place
